Guides for second-hand resellers
How to buy second-hand stock, price it, list it, post it and know what it really made. Written for people selling on Vinted and eBay anywhere, mostly in Europe, with examples in euros.
Getting started
2 guides
New to reselling? Start here: what is worth buying in the first place, and the mistakes that cost the most in the first year.
What sells best
The kinds of items that sell fastest second-hand, what they have in common, what sells badly, and four questions to ask in front of any item.
Beginner mistakes
Buying what you like, ignoring how fast stock sells, copying live listing prices, counting nothing: the mistakes that make most new resellers give up.
Buying stock
3 guides
Where to find stock, which brands hold their value, and how to avoid the scams aimed at people who buy to resell.
Where to buy stock
Flea markets, car boots, charity and thrift shops, online bundles, clearance stock, house clearances: where resellers source, and the trap in each.
Brands that resell
How to spot a brand that resells at a flea market or thrift shop: the families of brands that hold their value, the signs of quality, and the logo traps.
Avoiding scams
Fakes, misleading bundles, fake payment emails, off-platform payments and stolen goods: the traps resellers meet and the habits that avoid them.
Selling
4 guides
Pricing, titles and descriptions, photos, and which platform each kind of item belongs on.
Pricing on Vinted
Why live listings give you the wrong price, how to read sold items, what condition and size do to the number, and when a price drop is worth making.
Writing a listing
Write a title people actually search for, a description that answers questions before they are asked, and keywords that work on Vinted and eBay.
Photographing items
Light, background, framing, how many photos and how to show flaws: the method for photographing second-hand clothes with a phone so they sell faster.
Vinted vs eBay
What each platform sells best, how their fees work for private sellers in Europe, and how to split your stock without selling the same item twice.
Profit, postage and stock
3 guides
What an item really makes once every cost is counted, how to post without losing money, and how to keep a growing stock under control.
Posting parcels
Weight bands, parcel size, packaging and who pays for postage: how to stop shipping costs eating the profit on second-hand items you sell online.
Calculating profit
Cost price, gross and net profit, margin and markup, fees and how fast stock sells: working out what a second-hand item really makes you on Vinted or eBay.
Managing stock
Storing, labelling, finding any item in ten seconds and spotting stock that never sells: how to organise reselling stock that keeps growing.
How these guides are written
Each guide starts from a method we use and teach in French, then gets rewritten for an English-speaking reader wherever they sell: flea markets, car boot sales and thrift shops rather than one country's habits, examples in euros, and nothing that only exists in France. Where a fee or a rule differs from one country to another, the guide says so and sends you to the page for your own country.
Platform fees and official thresholds are only quoted when we have read them on the platform's or the government's own page, and each guide that quotes one links to that page with the date we checked it. Worked numbers are labelled as examples: they show how a calculation works, not what the market pays. Where we do not know something, the guide says so instead of guessing.
